J.M.W Turner Carisbrook Castle 1827

Map of Isle of Wight and Carisbrook Castle by J.M.W Turner

Map of Isle of Wight and Carisbrook Castle by J.M.W Turner

For todays painting I thought I would show the image of a painting and a Map. I was thinking that people who may read this blog in other countries might like to know where some of the places I mention are.

The Isle of Wigh for instance is a island off the Southern coast of England.

Turner painted this after his 1827 vistit to the island and it shows his use of light with the showing of sunshine on the castle walls also note the storm clouds

Samuel Palmer (1805-1881)

Palmer. A Dream in the Appenine c.1864 (watercolor and gouache on paper laid on wood) Tate Britain.jpg
A Dream In The Apennine (Tate Britain)
A excellent watercolour and gouache, as with a lot of Palmer’s work there is a senses of mystery and dreamlike feelings.
